Kumon In My Daily Routine
Kumon was like a newly-installed application which helped accelerate my absorption and retention of new learning.
- 6 years old (Grade 1)
I started Kumon when I was six years old. My parents enrolled me and it was difficult at the start. But as in any undertaking, perseverance pays off. I saw myself moving from one level to the next in a couple of months - unknowingly doing worksheets that were math lessons for third year high school students. I’d be amazed at how quickly I can finish seatworks, assignments, and quizzes. It was also easier for me to understand new lessons not only in math, but also in other subjects. Also, I became more resilient in doing corrections. I just do a problem again and again until I get it right, which has taught me that I can definitely learn from my mistakes.
The discipline of completing worksheets even without prodding from my parents became a normal flow in my daily routine. It’s like brushing my teeth after a meal or thanking and praying to God before I sleep. Little did I know that I had slowly transformed my personal study habits. My parents said that Kumon was like a newly-installed application which helped accelerate my absorption and retention of new learning.
Since I am the eldest of three children, I became a role model to my two younger siblings. They grew up seeing my Kumon worksheets and thought it was a part of our everyday, household routine and so they were not as resistant as I was when they were starting. I’m glad they didn’t have to go through that phase.
Thank you, Kumon, for making me see the value of learning!
