Small Steps to Achieve Big Dreams
Arianna Larisse Olivar
Kumon does not only help children learn math, but it also leads them to dream big.
- 4 years old (PK2)
I started to go to Kumon when I was four years old. On my first day, I was so excited. I was glad to meet the teachers and answer my worksheets. I also got to meet other kids and make new friends. It felt great when I was able to move to the next levels, and, later on, see my name on the Advanced Student Honor Roll (ASHR) list. I was particularly happy when we had our Advanced Students’ Forum (ASF) awarding ceremonies in Baguio. I got a gold medal, and my family was with me.
Kumon helped me be better in math when I went to preschool. In fact, I already knew the math lessons because I tackled them in Kumon. There were times when lessons became difficult and I became frustrated; but I learned to seek guidance from the teachers. After sometime, I figured out that I should follow the given examples at the start of a new lesson.
When I was in grade one, I always told my classmates to enroll in Kumon because I want other children to learn what I have learned. I want to share with them the Kumon experience so that they will see how easy and fun math can be. Last year, some of my classmates enrolled in Kumon.
I am now in grade three. I qualified for an international math competition held in Hong Kong, the 2013 International Mathematics Olympiad. I was so excited to join the three math competitions. Kumon helped and prepared me to face such challenges. I didn’t get an award, but I was glad to be able to experience joining an international competition. I promise to strive to do better next time. Kumon does not only help children learn math, but it also leads them to dream big.
