Student Testimonials Vol. 12
Inspired by Kumon
"Kumon changes young people to become better and educates kids towards excellence."
- 14 years old (3rd Year High School)
I felt glad when I realized that all of us (Kumon students) began at a low starting point for us to improve (our skills) and achieve our goals in life. I myself started at level DI (Combining sentences, main ideas and paragraphs) when I entered Kumon. As the level increased, it became harder and more complex that I started to lose patience. But with my teachers’ and instructor’s constant encouragement, I regained hope.
Throughout my Kumon journey, aside from academic development, Kumon also changed my attitude. I now learned to manage my time and be more patient. I became more determined and persevering. Before, when our teacher asked us to read, I always felt nervous or a bit annoyed because I was worried that I might not understand the message of the story. In short, I used to hate reading. But thanks to Kumon, now I even became a book lover who likes reading and collecting novels.
I also used to have a low grade in oral recitation because I almost never speak in class. Likewise, I lacked confidence and was ashamed that I might get criticized with my bad grammar. But through Kumon, I learned how to organize my ideas in writing and even in speaking in class. I am really grateful that my parents enrolled me in the Kumon program.
While answering my worksheets during my free time, my classmates also used to say, “What a waste of time,” or “What’s the use of that? It’s so boring.” But it didn’t bother me. I set my mind to finishing it and prove to them that they are wrong.
I also learned many things in Kumon. The program helped me comprehend passages, understand selections, and enriched my vocabulary. I also learned about history through reading.
Of course there were points (in my Kumon study) when I felt like giving up. Fortunately, my instructor, teachers, and my parents, with their unending love, support, and encouragement, lifted my spirit and motivated me to continue. My desire to improve my vocabulary and reading skills also pushed me to complete the program. I always ask myself, “If I won’t do these, it would be my loss. Thus, I should work hard!” I exerted a lot of time and effort to improve on my weakness and it was worth it. Now that I have completed the program, I felt very happy and proud of myself for this accomplishment. Being a junior student, I now look forward to passing an entrance examination in a prestigious university. I am also hoping to apply what I’ve learned in Kumon in the future.
For me, Kumon indeed helps many children in a lot of ways. It changes young people to become better and educates kids towards excellence. Continue to inspire more people, more power to Kumon!
